Sierra Vista Winery and Vineyards

Sierra Vista - John and Barbara MacCreadySierra Vista Winery and Vineyards ia a solar powered, sustainable, and eco-friendly winery!  Family owned and operated.

Sierra Vista - John and Barbara MacCreadyJohn and Barbara MacCready started the vineyard in 1972
in beautiful El Dorado County in the heart of the Sierra Foothill appellation, CA.  The winery has spectacular vineyards with views of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  They produce Rhone Style wines from Syrah (Shiraz), Rousanne and Viognier.  Due to the varied micro-climates of steep the mountain terrain the vineyard has suitable terroir for Mourvedre, Cinsault and Grenache.

Sierra Vista produces wines that are made to be enjoyed with food.  The goal is to take advantage of the cool growing region and produce wines reflective of the terroir.  Physiologically the vines are mature at 10 to 12 years old then you add another two and a half three times that (from the '70's!)  ...and that's where our vines are old-vine grapes.

"Older vines tend to give a richer wine that is quite often more color, they're they're sought after because of that."

Forward thinking with a love of the land: In the 1990s Sierra Vista was the very first winery in the El Dorado AVA to install photovoltaic solar panels.  A 14.4kw system was installed and reduced energy consumption from the grid by around 94% in the first month after it was fully operational.  When they generate more electricity than we need it goes into the grid for distribution other places.   Read more about the farm's practices here.

It is a massive understatement to only say that John and Barbara MacCready have had a powerful, huge, and forever impact in the region. It can’t be stated in large enough terms. Read more about John and Barbara here.
