2017 Chardonnay
A completely different Chardonnay than most consumers are accustomed to, this wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and has natural Chardonnay fruity character unadulterated by wood and malolactic fermentation.  Light straw in color with aromas of green apple, pineapple and citrus, in the mouth the flavors open with lemon and grapefruit followed by pear and pineapple with a crisp finish.

Sierra Vista Vineyard- Eco-Freindly, Organic, Solar2017 Chardonnay

A completely different Chardonnay than most consumers are accustomed to, this wine was fermented in stainless steel tanks and so has natural Chardonnay fruity character unadulterated by wood and malolactic fermentation.  Light straw in color with aromas of green apple, pineapple and citrus, in the mouth the flavors open with lemon and grapefruit followed by pear and pineapple with a crisp finish.

This Chardonnay has wonderful mouth filling intensity, complexity and roundness. Crisp citrus and tropical fruit with just a hint of butter gives a character that is balanced by a round mouth feel and lingering finish.

This wine is the ideal aperitif with seafood or vegetable hors d’oeuvres. Try it even with chip and dip. Because it is unoaked, it is a favorite with cream sauces: or try it with your favorite seafood dishes.

It comes from vines planted in 1982 on their own roots so that qualifies them to be considered "old". The benefit of having old vines is that the vines produce more concentated fruit as they age giving the wines more complex concentrated character to be enjoyed.

"This is our un-oaked Chardonnay. It is own-rooted which means its on it own non-phylloxera resistant rootstock.   No oak touches this wine, but for that, I think this is a rich wine for having no oak influence. …lots of nice ripe pineapple, a little bit of star anise, ...rich gold mango, ripe nectarine. Its very fruit forward if you like sweet fruit wine without it being ‘sweet’. It really fits that profile."

Many have come to know Sierra Vista as a producer of high quality RED wines. However Chardonnay grows well in our microclimates and was the first white grape planted.

The own-rooted Chardonnay is cold fermented in a stainless tank to preserve all its fruity characteristics which is similar to the Chablis style Chardonnays from France. This wine has been a wonderful tool to emphasize that our cool climate can produce excellent white wines.

The old vine Chardonnay is entirely from the estate vineyard, just in front of the winery as you look toward the Crystal range of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. This is the coolest microclimate on the property as evidenced by how the snow melts very slowly there.

The vineyard was planted in 1982 on its’ own roots and produces excellent quality Chardonnay. Own rooted mean that the Chardonnay vines are not grafted onto rootstock as most vineyards are in California, France and the rest of the world. The benefit of own rooted old vine is enhanced fruit and complexity and there can be no question that the grapes taste like Chardonnay! and are not modified by the other variety it is grown on.
